[ARCHIVED] Media Release - Structure Fire 5047 N. Hollywood Ave.

January 27, 2022

For Immediate Release:

Whitefish Bay, WI: This evening at approximately 6:14p.m., the Bayside Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a resident reporting a kitchen fire in the home at 5047 N. Hollywood Avenue. Fire and law enforcement units were dispatched immediately. Whitefish Bay Police squads were in the area and arrived on scene almost simultaneously following dispatch. They advised incoming fire units of active fire and confirmed that the lone resident of the home had evacuated but that a dog remained inside. Additionally, they deployed several fire extinguishers on the fire in an attempt to bring it under control.

The first arriving fire companies found smoke showing from the rear of the structure and initiated fire operations to extinguish remaining fire and stop any potential fire spread. They also worked to quickly locate the dog and remove it from the home to return it to the owner. The dog appeared unharmed. Crews located some extension between the ceiling on the first and second floor and performed overhaul operations to ensure any remaining hotspots were extinguished.

One firefighter operating at the fire suffered a minor injury due to the icy conditions on the scene.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation but is not believed to be suspicious. The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire and returned to find flames and smoke coming from the rear of the house. The area of origin appears to be in the area of the kitchen stove which was not actively in use. Damage to the home and contents is estimated to be approximately $80,000.

North Shore Fire/Rescue was assisted on scene by the Milwaukee Fire Department, the Whitefish Bay Police Department and WE Energies Gas and Electric crews. For more information regarding this incident, please contact Battalion Chief Dan Tyk, at 414-357-0113 ext. 1513 or dtyk@nsfire.org.
